Read on if you would like to know more about this retreat:
In this yoga retreat, we will incorporate co-regulation practices, which rely on the teacher’s steady nervous system to ground students, and self-regulation practices, which uses intrapersonal tools like asana, breathwork and more. Together, they shift the nervous system from fight-or-flight into the relaxed state known as the ventral vagal state.
(Here is a more detailed explanation excerpted from the internet.)
Co-Regulation Practices (Shared Nervous System)
-
Instructor Attunement: Teachers anchor themselves in grounded breathing and intentional voice modulation. This "lends" a calm, regulated state to students, helping to de-escalate anxiety and stress in the room.
-
Synchronized Pacing: The collective energy of moving together and pacing breaths creates a shared emotional safety net, making it easier for individuals to relax than if practicing alone.
-
Trauma-Informed Space Holding: Instructors offer clear choices (e.g., opting for child's pose instead of a difficult posture) to foster autonomy and safety.
Self-Regulation Practices (Independent Mastery)
(Use these practices anytime and incorporate into your daily life.)
-
Breath Regulation (Pranayama): Using techniques like the 4-7-8 breath or alternate nostril breathing directly stimulates the vagus nerve to lower heart rates and calm the mind.
-
Physical Postures (Asana): Mindful movement releases built-up physical tension, allowing practitioners to physically process and release stagnant emotions or stress.
-
Pratyahara (Sensory Withdrawal): Practices like guided body scans or Savasana disconnect you from external stimuli to sharpen internal focus and self-awareness.
-
Mindful Meditation (Dhyana): Training the mind to observe passing thoughts without judgment builds the mental resilience needed to regulate emotional responses in daily life.
